Fair Isle Knitting 101

Fair Isle is method of stranded knitting.  The name comes from the tiny island of Fair Isle in the Shetland Islands, halfway between Scotland and Norway.  The class will cover the basic techniques for knitting in the round while holding two colors of yarn.  You’ll learn three ways of holding the two colors of yarn, what yarn dominance is and how to keep the correct tension so you work doesn’t pucker. We will practice these techniques on a headband pattern.

Materials needed:  16” #5 and #7 circular needle.  Worsted weight yarn in two contrasting colors (one light, one dark)
